There's not enough garbage time in the NFL to prepare a young QB. Last year, that would have amounted to about three quarters of play. Thanks to parity, most of the games are close.
If we could reasonably expect Brunell to perform well enough over an entire season for a championship run, I wouldn't have drawn the conclusion that we need to get Campbell ready and hope that he's up to the challenge.
