Your JP Losman example is way overstated. Your pinning your arguments on one example centered around a position (QB) that takes years to develop, if ever. JP Losman still has time to develop. He may be cut or traded and then play lights out offense or another team down the road. Plenty of QB's are drafted early and don't live up to expectations. I'm not sure what the attrition rate is for QB but I'm sure it is one of the lowest.
As far as acquiring a bunch of draft picks for a lower draft position. How about the Redskins getting the Saints draft picks for Ricky Williams. We got a ton of picks but we haven't won a championship as a result of those extra picks. We did make the playoffs this year special thanks to FA acquisitions like Moss, Brunell, Washington, Griffin, Daniels, Thomas, Rabach, Wynn.
