Re: 9-11-2006

I was working at a news station, and I had to produce some brief local news segment then I was going to take a nap. I thought to myself "ok let's just get this done with real quick then I go on my break" Honestly, when I heard that suddenly breaking news was coming in from New York that a plane hit a building I don't know why but I turned to my co-worker and said "Osama" I was purely speculating. But to watch it unfold was surreal to say the least

I ended up spending 7 straight days working and sleeping in the newsroom. My mom was supposed to be at the Pentagon that day. Luckily, a last second meeting at her office kept her at the last minute. As part of her job, she was actually overseeing the identification of all the bodies at the Pentagon. It was pretty rough on her.

Me and about 20 of my friends and I had come up with kind of a cool idea. For every touchdown the Redskins scored we each chipped in a dollar, for each field goal 50 cents. At the end of the season we wrote a check out to a foundation that was helping the children of Pentagon victims, providing money for them to get a good education. Unfortunately, that was the Marty year so the check was only for like $600. But we got some outside help to bump it over $1000. Not much still, but it felt good to help.

So yeah, it's definitely a day I'll never forget. And as much as I'm looking forward to this game I feel very weird when I say or hear other people say "I can't wait for 9/11"
