Re: Seven Steps to Redskins Renewal

Step #1: Get out from under as many "bad contracts" as we can.
Step #2: Re-commit to building this team through the draft ... I'm advocating trading down in the 1st Rd., and getting extra picks in
Day #1.
Step #3: When Coach Gibbs, Coach Williams and Coach Saunders
go in and start breaking down this train wreck, have the guts and
courage to admit that they did a p*%$-poor job of tailoring their
respective schemes to the personnel on-board, man-up about it,
and change their schemes accordingly.
Step #4: On offense, Al, please note: We play in the NFC East, and
that means we run the ball in November, December, and beyond.
Our O-line is constructed for just that purpose. Run CP and Betts
as your 1-2 if you like, but make better use of Sellers in those testy
3rd down and short and goal line situations. Remember "Heavy Jumbo"?
It worked, and it worked for a reason, even when the other team knew
it was coming, they rarely stopped it.
Step #5: On Defense, Greg, here's the deal, dawg ... the genius has
been exposed!! You've done about as bad a job of tailoring your defense
to the talents of the players you have as one can imagine!! Adam Archuletta
is on you, man ... you wanted him, you got him ... now either find a way to
utilize what he brings to the table, or get off the pot !! Is your system so
complex that our 2nd Rd. pick, Rocky McIntosh, still can't get on the field??
Take a que from Coach Gibbs, and check your ego at the door. And that goes for some of your assistants, too.
Step #6: Off-season work outs must have a clear purppose ... toward winning from the start in '07. Things like injuries can't be anticipated, but the number of nagging, "minor" injuries we've suffered this year is just alarming. It needs to be impressed upon everyone at the final team meeting later this year that everyone haas to own their share of this debacle, and be accountable for it. And it needs to be rammed home to every player that the in-house "crap" that settled over this team this year ends now. If anyone doesn't want to be here, fine ... leave! Those that want to be here, and believe in what we're about and are trying to build here, get started towards next year immediately by taking it upon themselves to hold each other accountable during the "off season" in their conditioning, re-hab workouts, and training work, by being present for every OTA, QB School Session, etc.
Bottom Line: If you're really upset about whats happened here this year, then be here in the off-season when it matters.
Step #7: Be prepared to bust your collective @$$&$ in traing camp next summer ... you've earned it !!

I've loved this team since I was a kid, growing up in Springfield, and following the troops on the radio ... was listening on that great day in '66 when we hung 72 pts. on the Gents. I remember when the running game revolved around A.D. Whitfield ... when Jurgenson to Taylor or Mitchell, or Jerry Smith was as good as 6 ... when Sam Huff was hurting the other teams for us, just like he did for the Gents. I remember when Lombardi came on board, and how excited me and my dad were ... and how sad we were when he became ill and died.

And while we're reflecting on the way things used to be ... bring back Frank Herzog ... his game calls were classic, and embodied the feel of the great teams of the '80's.
