I'll third that. I think a lot of what he leaves out is the chemistry factor that stems from overpaying someone. Maybe the danny didn't want to pay him, but it's also a message to the team that you won't be the highest paid player in the nfl at your position if you don't perform up to it.
I realize this goes both ways & some players may feel mgmt. is going back on its word w/AA as they did w/Lavar, but teams in the salary cap era have to cut players or ask them to take a pay cut every year. I think this was a great move & could have a huge impact on the D, all for the better.
This has got me thinkin about Coles in 05. Got rid of him & the O had a much better year thereafter. This offseason is shaping up a lot like 05, few moves in free agency, dump some dead weight (AA), & get the #6 pick. Also have a young qb who started at the end of the year, though I don't want to draw any comparisons to the Ramsey situation!
