Not really. They already have the power to commit you if they see fit and that's based on
their observations only. You don't have to do anything violent to justify being committed. Many times people voluntarily commit themselves and once they are evaluated, a doctor can turn that into an involuntary commitment if they are concerned you may be a danger to yourself or others.
