Jenkins' article is off base, though it is not without any merit, in my view.

I think that Jenkins raises a good point in that the Redskins could have signed Ryan Clark for 1.5 million, and if GW had been more tuned in to what Clark meant to the team and to Sean Taylor, we would have a lot more money available, would have had a much better team last year, and more harmony overall. Human beings being imperfect, mistakes are made, and that is part of life needless to say. One good result is that we now have a great new prospect in Laron Landry.

However, you can't blame Coach Gibbs because of Taylor's decision to be awol; that is Taylor's choice. Sean Taylor has a contract he is playing under and that is not related to personnel decisions the team makes that he may or may not like. He is someone who it has been difficult to reach not infrequently, as Jenkins points out. He may be an emotional person and is responding according to what his feelings are. Taylor has been awol when Ryan Clark was on the team too. The fact is that the Redskins have been very patient and supportive of him through all of his legal difficulties. There is no shame whatsoever for Coach Gibbs in a grown man's decision not to be in touch. To blame Gibbs, as Jenkins does is spurious. As for Cris Carter, he is paid to make inflammatory statements. Enough said about his view.

Shawn Springs is causing a needless disruption by his absense, and this is his decision. Yes, the Redskins tried to replace him, and you can't blame them for that, because so much depends on having a healthy secondary. Yes, they asked him to take a pay cut, and that was their right. It was his right to refuse, and that is over and done with. Those things happened, but that is different from Springs' decision not to show up. He may relate them in his mind, and Jenkins may do that, but it really comes down to a grown man who is making a decision that simply suits his purposes. It has nothing legitimate to do with Coach Gibbs.

It is still early, and hopefully the two players will recognize the wisdom is returning to the fold soon. Mistakes are made by human beings and that is life.
