Well, you could make that same point about using a 6th round pick on Jordan Palmer. If they didn't think he was capable of being the #3 QB, why bring him here in the first place?

It's about creating competition and spreading your eggs in different baskets. You sign a Bramlet, you draft a Palmer, and you let them fight it out with Todd Collins. There, you have two chances for a young QB to show some promise to unseat your cagey old vet, instead of just one chance.

Acquiring a guy does not necessarily mean you're committed to him. It means you're committing to getting a closer look at him to see what he can do. So it shouldn't be a foregone conclusion that Bramlet will make the roster at this point, for all we know (and all Gibbs knows) Jordan Palmer could look better in training camp.

That said, I do like what I've seen from Bramlet.
