The big question is are values prerequisite for being sane and vice versa. Whose values are we going by and what makes certain values more worthy and right? I most certainly don't have the same exact set of values as you, does that mean I'm insane or at the very least less sane with respect to some of your values?
Values are a matter of prospective and beliefs. Lets take human sacrifice for instance. Is a society that practices human sacrifice insane compared to that which doesn't but permits capital punishment? If yes, how so? What if the person being sacrificed wishes to be sacrificed while a person that does not wish to be put to death is put to death?
One can be very sane and have no values (i.e. drug dealers or dudes that rob old ladies). The litmus test for determining sanity can not be based on values. I mean, I would have to classify everyone I throughly disagree with as insane (i.e. Clarence Thomas and Antonin Scalia).
