But then that's around the time you can start rehabbing and using your ankle, getting the full range of motions, etc. And that process can take a few months.

I actually did break my ankle in high school (granted I was younger than Jansen) and I was back playing soccer on it in 7 weeks...and they had to force me to stay off the field cause I wanted to by week 5 or so.
Maybe I'm a quick healer, and maybe it was my age...but soccer requires your ankles more than football. At this point, I just don't see why it's a season long injury unless ligaments / tendons were snapped too.
