If that meant resting players who were injured or not using all of their energy in a game that they are already winning by 28 points then so be it. Similarly, when Peyton was breaking Marino's record there were LOADS of times when he would get down on the goal line in the 4th and sometimes 3rd quarter of a blowout game, run 3 times, and kick a FG. I know this for a fact cuz he was my fantasy QB that year and i was praying many times that he would throw it in while watching the live gametracker. U never got the sense that he was trying to break the record. He was just trying to win the game (and ultimately win a championship).

With Brady and the Pats, you can CLEARLY see that they are doing it for the stats and glory. Brady throws it 50 times a game in a blowout. They leave their starters in way past the point when the game is in reach. That rubs ppl the wrong way. Whether it is the players, other coaches, or fans, people don't like it b/c it cheapens the game that we love PERIOD It is also classless. I think thats the best way to put it (about Belicheat, Brady, and the Pats)...cheap and classless. I also don't see how it can be a "perfect" season when you are caught videotaping and BLATANTLY violating the rules of the game.
So by your example if I'm a runner and I'm way out front on a record pace then I should slow down and conserve myself and not try to get the record? Your example of the Colts was great but they fell even though they did what is I guess was to save themself for the playoffs. Does it cheaping the game when a bunch of old guys get together and celebrate a team loosing so they can keep the record? What is wrong with wanting to set some records and maybe going down as one of the greatest teams to play the game. I don't think people here would have a problem if it was the skins.
