Last year, yeah. Back in 2006 though, we had Clinton Portis in the prime of his career, a quarterback who was having a better statistical year than the prior year, and if the picks had been used on defensive depth, we probably wouldn't have stunk so bad on defense that year after a few injuries.
There's no reason to think we couldn't have improved on 2005 without those stupid signings. Because we failed, we started over at midseason, and 2007 became somewhat of a rebuilding year--instead of the decline year it would have been if we had been great in 2006. I mean, if we went to the NFC championship after winning the division in 2006, then an injury riddled year in which we won 9 games and got beat in the first round would have been considered a failure, but considering just how worse off those signings made us, I think we were all happy to see the team get back on track for 2007.
