Buccaneers | Team looking to spend on extensions, trades

The St. Petersburg Times reports the Tampa Bay Buccaneers entered free agency with a league-high $44 million in salary-cap space. The team has earmarked much of it for contract extensions, according to general manager Bruce Allen. Allen also indicated that the team is actively pursuing potentially significant trades due to the lack of depth in this year's group of free agents.

Tim Graham, of the Palm Beach Post, reports free-agent OG Rex Hadnot (Dolphins) is seeking a four- or five-year contract worth about $5 million per season, according to sources. One NFL insider predicts Hadnot would average closer to $3.5 million than what he's asking for.

Jim Flynn, of PewterReport.com, reports Tampa Bay Buccaneers general manager Bruce Allen said Wednesday, March 5, that the team would welcome QB Jake Plummer back if he wanted to come out of retirement. The team has talked to Plummer this year, but it is not known if he intends to play in 2008. Plummer is under contract with the Buccaneers through 2010.
