As far as my family, my mom packed up and left me when I was 17, so I have no qualms with leaving her. The only deterrent is that she has a great relationship with my kids. However, I'm not going to live my life tied to either one of them. I have always wanted to live near a beach, and hope this is an opportunity to do that and maintain a good standard of living for my family.
