NFL | Merling undergoes surgery

Rob Rang, of CBSSports.com, reports University of Clemson DL Phillip Merling (groin) recently underwent surgery to repair a sports hernia and will not be working out at his school's Pro Day Friday, March 14. Merling hopes to be recovered in time to work out for NFL scouts before the 2008 NFL Draft.

Gil Brandt, of NFL.com, reports University of Auburn DL Pat Sims worked out at his school's Pro Day Monday, March 10. Sims had a 30 1/2-inch vertical jump, a seven-foot, 11-inch long jump, a 4.80-second short shuttle and a 7.71-second cone drill. He measured in at 6-foot-2 1/8 and 310 pounds.

roids are interested in pretty good talent, and pat sims completely bombs his pro day. merling may drop a bit because of the surgery, but he should be fine for opening day, so that might actually help us land him.
