Here's what I don't get. The attitude that "I don't collect autographs, ergo everyone that collects autographs is incomprehensible to me." The point that everyone has made here, is just that if you don't want to sign then don't say you will. If you make a commitment then follow through. That is not really a difficult concept, I think its just being a decent person. Clearly no one is saying, Landry didn't show to the signing he should get cut, the point is just that if you make a commitment in life you should follow through.
I also don't think that getting an autograph on a piece of paper or photograph makes a whole lot of sense, but getting some equipment signed (i.e. authentic jersey or Proline helmet) makes a great display and conversation piece. I wouldn't think that would be such an odd thing for a sports fan to understand. For instance, I love my Chris Cooley Proline Revolution helmet and I bet if I were to offer it to you you wouldn't mind having it either ... come on.
