I would have felt pretty good about our WR situation then and we could have addressed other needs in the draft. Now it seems pretty clear that we'll use a pick on a WR at some point in the draft.

Yeah and I can't say I mind that approach. And in general, the team's fiscal restraint is admirable. But it's almost like we've gone from blindly writing checks to blindly passing on all free agents.
I realize I'm oversimplifying. But passing on Hackett at that price didn't make a lot of sense. Yes he's been hurt some. But to my knowledge, he's not hurt now. He knows the offense. He's a decent size. And he cost as much as Pete Kendall. Pete Kendall, people. For a guy that has put up several 100 yard games, and if he can stay on the field, could put up a 1000 yard season.
Seems we could have 3 solid WR heading into the draft. We would have gotten the perfect #2 option, allowing ARE to move into the slot. Then we could have gone for the offensive and defensive lines in the first three rounds, maybe a S, maybe a CB. We would have been better off.
