I got my dog from a farm breeder in Central PA too and it's been completely healthy and a GREAT dog for 5+ years now.
However, with the Amish, you have to watch out for puppy mills. The Amish are notorious for this and you should NEVER give money to one of these kinds of breeders. Aside from health issues, they treat the dogs doing the breeding horribly, like machines instead of living creatures.
Everyone should ALWAYS do their homework before buying from any breeder and should NEVER buy from a pet shop. Pet shops keep the puppy mills in business and you'll way overpay for a possibly unhealthy dog anyways.
