In terms of yards given up the Giants were just slightly better than the Redskins last year (305 - 305.3), and they were actually worse in terms of points given up per game (21.9 - 19.4).

I think tops in the league. The Giants had a bad secondary through most of last year, but outside of Sam Madison (who is probably a liability at this point), they were a young,
vastly improved team in the playoffs.
Based on what I know about young defensive players, the Giants are very likely to carry that performance into this season. Undoubtably, they performed better than any other defense in the playoffs last season, so thats my basis for thinking they are the best team this year.
Anyway, Eli's maturity is probably for real, but even so, it's hard not to think that he was playing totally over his head in the playoffs. He'll be better, but I don't think the Giants will seperate from the pack offensively.
