Your swing is obviously the most important part of the game. Just make sure you aren't trying to "kill it." Hitting the ball 130 yards with your 7 iron on a consistent basis is
far better than hitting the ball 200 yards on an inconsistent basis.
Just try to consistently hit the ball in the sweet spot without crushing it (it's hard to hit the ball consistently in the sweet spot if your trying to hit a "home run"). If you do, you're going to get the right loft and line. Once you do that, you'll figure out how far you tend to hit your clubs and be in good shape on the course.
FYI - I don't know that much about golf as I've only taken about 12 lessons and have been playing for less than 2 years. However, my instructor told me everything I said in this post.
