So if we signed Peppers, it would be to replace Evans in the lineup, and though they are the same age, it would just be the same type of mistake we make year after year if Peppers disappoints.

We clog the LDE position, probably overpay for the guy, and then the sack production still doesn't significantly improve. Because the problem is interior DL/scheme related (in the sense that pre-snap reads are effective against us, so QBs can get the ball out under pressure).

I think the fact that Jason Taylor hasn't improved our sack rate, and has actually forced Carter's sack production to decline is about as solid as evidence gets that personnel at end is not the reason why we can't sack QBs.

I completely agree... and after watching Montgomery absolutely throw a few guys around on some plays I have to say I see why everyone says he has the strength to be an elite DL... and it baffles me why they can't get production of him. He's a monster... but none of our guys are achieving their potential inside that line. Griffin is usually pretty stout, but he's not what he was 2 years ago and there's really no one else that can cause enough commotion up the middle. Our ends are rushing and the QB has all kinds of room to step up into the pocked because its completely vacant in the middle.
