I don't think so. Faraday didn't really care about getting into the hatch until he saw Lewis's nose bleeding, which is the first symptom of whatever disease killed Fisher Stevens (I forget his name on the show - Mac?). After that, he looked up something in his journal, and
then decided to get into the hatch.
