I think it's even more fundamental than that. There are people in the world who can't see the difference between a good argument and a bad one. They just all look the same to them. There are people who will say "Campbell is good because I want him to be good" and others who say "Campbell is good because he continues to improve in QB rating" and these arguments look the same to people: things they disagree with.
I'm really inclined to say it's more of a product of the type of media they've been exposed to than anything, but I know some people personally who definately suffer from the inability to see a bad argument...even when it's most obvious to me.
