Getting Samuels and Thomas back should absolutely make the line better, but I'm not sure how that makes Rabach's inability to pass block or move a nose tackle even one inch less of a liability.

I certainly haven't put in the tape time that you have but you summarized my assumption. That with Samuels healthy, Kendall could help Rabach more and that Thomas could help Rabach more when he was healthy and Jansen was playing better.
I would expect any offensive line playing two backup tackles and two older banged up guards to look pretty bad on tape.
