Re: Redskins Select Jarmon in 3rd Round of Supplemental Draft

Production 2 2005: Redshirted; 2006: (13/6) 30 tackles, 6.5 TFL, 4 sacks, 4 PBU, 1 FF, 1 FR; 2007: (13/13) 62 tackles, 13.5 TFL, 9 sacks, 2 PBU, 2 FF, 1 FR, Second-Team All-SEC; 2008: (12/10) 38 tackles, 10 TFL, 4.5 sacks, 6 PBU, 2 FF, Honorable Mention All-SEC
H-W-S ratio 2 Prototypical height, bulk and top-end speed.
Durability 4 2008: Tears knee cartilage during Vanderbilt game, undergoes arthroscopic surgery and misses Tennessee game. 2005: Sustains shoulder injury during the summer and doesn't practice until midway though the season.
Intangibles 4 Ruled ineligible for 2009 season after testing positive for a banned substance. Was UK's Co-Most Outstanding Defensive Player in 2007. Effort appears inconsistent on film.
Pass-rush skills 2 Explosive first step and should be able to turn the corner working against most NFL right tackles. Strong bull-rusher who flashes an effective push-pull move but didn't show on film the ability to set tackles up to the outside and then redirect inside.
Athleticism/versatility 2 Above-average lateral mobility for his size and looks fluid running line stunts. Agile and comfortable enough in space to move to outside linebacker in a base 3-4 scheme. Stout enough to develop into an effective power end for a base 4-3 team and effective 5-technique for a base 3-4 team.
Versus the run 3 Does an adequate job of staying low and anchoring when teams run at him. Can stack and shed tight ends/tackles. Flashes the ability to shed blocks in time to make plays at the line of scrimmage but is inconsistent in this area. Takes adequate pursuit angles and generally does a good job of closing down cutback lanes but lacks ideal range.
Instincts/competitiveness 4 Can rush too far upfield or collapse inside prematurely, making him vulnerable to misdirection, but his biggest flaw is an inconsistent motor. Appears to take plays off and can gear down when teams run away from him. Flashes a mean streak and plays with emotion at other times. Does an excellent job of getting his hands up when he sees the quarterback start a throwing motion. Does an adequate job of locating the ball carrier.
Overall From a purely physical standpoint Jarmon is capable of making an impact in the NFL. He could have played his way into being a first-day pick in the 2010 draft, but questionable instincts and recent off-the-field issues raise significant concerns for us.
