And what part of Cornyn's letter that I posted is false? He stated that he's not aware of any prior precedent for this. As far as I know this is true. He also stated that the action raises the "specter of a data collection system", which it does.

The Obama Admin was at the forefront of using the web as a campaign marketing tool. He's the President now, CEO of the country, he's not head of the Obama marketing department anymore. Totally different mind-set and I don't think he's made the full transition yet.

While I was no fan of Clinton, where he was more effective than Obama (thusfar) was in reading the political winds and finding the center when necessary. Clinton was a masterful politician and knew how to make deals. He also knew what battles not to fight. Obama is a true-believer in more left leaning policies and seems unwilling to make the compromises necessary to forward agenda with minimal political damage. He continues to fight a losing battle without compromise and IMO this will cost him in 2010 by losing at least one house, if not both houses of Congress.
Cornyn letter is false in both substance and context. Whose information are they going to collect? The person that is forwarding you the email or the people listed in the CC who are mostly forwarding the email too? What is the point of this exercise? If you really want to spy on the American people you already have that with the NSA and it's new found power of data mining, that would be the best way to go instead of tracking down people in chain emails.

I don't know if Obama is the first, though I do remember Homeland Security Administration under Bush asking us to report suspicious activities which more nefarious because it asks you to directly report Americans to HSA where as the Obama administration asks you to forward them fishy emails. Furthermore "as far as I know" is not language used by wise men. I mean, as far as I know Cornyn could be a bisexual.

Obama has learned a lot from Clinton's experience. One of these lessons is to debunk and fight the rumor mills at every turn and the point of asking people for help is to inform the public of the truth, their truths. We'll see if their actions work in their favor come 2010.
