They let Alan Faneca walk in the last few years. I admire the Steelers for not overpaying aging vets.

In contrast, the "Snyder philosophy" is to delay a player's escalating cap figure by renegotiating the contract , even when that player might have only one serviceable season left. This is why the Redskins are among the worst offenders of carrying a large "dead" cap total for players no longer on the team. As an example, B. Lloyd is still counting $5M against this year's cap. Jon Jansen is even more. We are carrying about $18M in dead cap this season. I want to see a more patient philosophy to build a consistent winner through the draft (cheap talent). I also want to see some players sent packing rather than renegotiating and delaying their cap hit to when they are no longer even useful.
