The transition tender for 2004 was $5.7 million. Considering the franchise tender for 2005 jumped by $2 million over 2004's $6.8 million tender, you could expect that the transition tag for 2005 is probably in the range of last year's franchise figure.

Essentially, by giving Smoot the transition tag, the Redskins would be offering Champ Bailey money for Smoot, without the protection of draft choice compensation.
