I have a ton if respect for the people of Mississippi after the hurricane. They never complained, never asked for Government and taxpayer handouts and in fact, were better prepared because they're not electing corrupt people to spend the levee money on everything BUT safety.
Seriously, every time I am watching football and they start talking about the Saints and Katrina, I always (often out loud) ask "What about Mississippi, or Florida?"
I understand it WAS devastating to a lot of people, but the actions of some in New Orleans afterward and then electing the same people who almost cost them their lives...it's tough to feel as much pity for them.

Thank you. New Orleans took Katrina on the chin because they built poor levees. We took Katrina on the chin because Katrina came right through our town. People on my block died because of trees falling on their houses and it was pure fortune that it wasn't me, too. It drives me nuts when people mention New Orleans only in connection to Katrina and forget about Mississippi.
But if you think that Mississippi does not elect corrupt politicians, then I'd like to sell you the Brooklyn Bridge.
