but your point that a former player with average stats while he was in the nfl could never be a good coach is 100% correct. noone could argue otherwise.
The "Advanced Passing" section of pro football reference does adjust for the passing climate of the era, whereas stats like QB rating are just heavily skewed towards players that play today.

It doesn't adjust for opponents though, so it's not perfect.
