I heard some sports analyst speculate that even if it comes back, it won't be like the old system. They said that the players do not want a cap and many owners do not want a floor. So the speculation was that the next cap might be similar to the NBA where there is some type of luxury tax for those who choose to be above it.

I understand the people who say we need to build through the draft and we need to avoid overpaid free agents. I am in the camp that when you are 4-12, you use the uncapped year to dump all the stupid contracts (ARE comes to mind) dump players who are wasting a roster spot (Betts), bring in any player that makes the team better at market value, and not be afraid to overpay for a star or two.

We need to remember that EVERYONE has said that Bruce Allen's biggest strength is contract negotiation and cap management. The days of throwing away picks for a Brandon Lloyd and then immediately tearing up their contract and giving them #1 receiver money are gone.
