Re: Five Redskins Most Likely To Improve

Jason Campbell - i understand and agree with the sentiment that JC needs a better offensive line for him to improve.

with that said, we have gotten to watch him for 3 years now and, believe it or not, there have been plays were the o line holds, a receiver is open enough yet JC doesnt make the proper read or accurate enough throw.

i think a qbs ability to properly read defenses pre-snap, identify the blitz, read coverage and know where to go with the ball is they most important mental aspect of quarterbacking. most of his college scouting reports said he needed to be coached up on this aspect.

i dont think he has had a coach that was able to present JC with the proper preparation and teaching for him to grow in this regard.

i feel really good about what shanny and kyle and lefeur (sp?) bring to the table in regards to translating what they want from him in a manner JC can comprehend and utilize. maybe, with actual coaching, he can become an actual qb.

i heard him talking the other day and he said he has to unlearn what zorn taught him about staying low b/c our new coaches want him standing tall in the pocket.

he said when players asked him why he threw a 3 yd pass on 3rd and 9, he said that was the play that was called and he couldnt audible/change it.

while gibbs was a great coach, i dont think he updated his qb manual form the 80's where you could excel with a handoff, handoff, PA pass qb.

i dont think zorn was necessarily bad for his development in a qb teaching aspect, but i do think zorn greatly handcuffed JC and our offense with his play calling.

and the fact that are play calling was always late and odd, didnt give JC enough time to step up to the line and survey things. it seemed we always started lining up with 10-15 seconds left on the play clock, JC would get under center with 8 seconds left, not much time to change speeds on when you hike the ball or allow JC time to let what he is seeing from the defense sink in. it always seemed like JC would get under center, hike the ball 2 seconds later.

i think alot of these problems are gone and JC is set to improve.
