Davis is much better then we give him credit for. A part of Davis's game that people don't realize is how powerful his punch is, watch the film and notice he can jar guys back with his punch in pass protection. He's also a powerful run blocker when he gets locked on. The things I didn't like about him though were the fact that his footwork was average at times and he wouldn't finish plays.
I personally felt the same way as you do about Davis but in re-watching the "tape" I started to see why he was so highly regarded. I personally like him as my third best tackle these days behind Bulaga.
At around 0:11 he turns his guy out. This might not look like a fancy play to the casual observer but as my high school D-Line coach told me, if they turn you out one way or the other they beat you.
I hate the screen pass at 0:19. He has a clear shot at a pancake and instead he does this weird turn-launch thing that does only enough to distract the guy for a second.
1:07 just gives up on the play because he's playing backside
1:54 Heres the punch I'm talking about. Watch as the guy gets pushed back around a foot away from the point of contact.
