It's kind of stupid for anyone to be out walking around a war zone, and it's not our troops' responsibility to watch out for them. If we had a foreign force fighting in our country, there's no way I'd leave the house when military helicopters were flying overhead.
That's war. Collateral damage happens. Stay out the way if you don't want to get killed.
As for the van, another dumb decision, especially with kids in the car. Don't drive up and try to help the guy when choppers are still overhead. Get your kids home first, then if you still want to be brave and risk your life trying to pick the guy up, go ahead. But do so knowing you're in a war zone.
Who brings kids to a war zone?
