The slave trade started when other African tribes didn't want to be slaves to the Arabs so they kidnapped opposing tribes and turned them over to the Arabs so they would leave them alone. Then Britan and the Arabs started trading. Somewhere in there the Brits decided to cut out the middle man and started taking Africans on their own.
