Well, the bullpen may not have a bunch of studs, but I've never seen someone as clueless as Dave Trembley when it came to managing a bullpen properly. He played far too many matchups and it cost the O's some games. I like Trembley, I think he's a great guy, but he couldn't handle a staff for sh!t. I believe that, more than anything else is why he was so overmatched as a manager.
As to the injuries, they've been bad, but it also doesn't help that the kids aren't hitting. Markakis, Jones, Weiters, Reimold, I excpected them to have pretty solid offensive seasons and the only one who has been passable to this point is Kakes. Beyond that, Tejada is okay, he's just not hitting and his D at 3rd isn't too bad. Atkins is a disaster, but he was worth a risk. I'd rather take a flyer on a Garrett Atkins then sign a known quantity like LaRoche and still lose just as many games because he's not a good ballplayer.
All in all, this team needs to have the young core step up and deliver or Andy MacPhail's plan will never work.
