Six year old children aren't mature enough to make any decisions, but to try and influence their behavior by denying them the truth is the wrong approach, IMO.
So, since I don't want my kid to try to hike Mt. Everest, I will simply deny that it exists. I'll try to make sure that he doesn't learn about it in school. Oh, and I'll also tell him that oceans are not real. Problem solved, I'm so smart.
