The consistent play-per-play element in this offense has to be the running game. Otherwise, too much max protect, down-the-field, throw on the run elements. We're on pace to generate more plays of 40+ yards than the Eagles did last year with DeSean Jackson and Jeremy Maclin on their team.
I agree that if we had a running game it basically makes having a complete/balanced passing game a luxury rather then a need.

And you really can't make McNabb into something he's not.
I think that a lot of McNabb's minus plays are very fixable.
edit(Also if you look at McNabb's comp% in relation to his receivers there is a correlation to the quality; when he had TO his comp % shot up to 64%)

We're using him as a cog in a big-play offensive system, as opposed to running an entire offense through him like the Eagles have done for years. We're not going to be able to adjust this offense to go underneath, get four consecutive first downs and eat the clock.
Also, Kyle playcalling of late has been catering to McNabb's penchant for airing it out rather then making him more efficient but if you look at the Texans game Kyle seemed to go out of his way to get McNabb in rhythm with easy pitch and catch edit: (WR screens, FB flat/FB drag routes etc) with well defined reads and it payed off.

I think that some the throws McNabb has missed are very fixable.
Here are 2 examples:
-there was a key 3rd down last game in the 2nd half where McNabb sprints/half-rolls (w/o playfake) to his right and had Moss open for what would have been a easy 1st down but he for some reason he didn't pull the trigger.
-He also threw a bomb to Armstrong on 3rd down where we were probably better served going with a higher % attempt.
And some of the decision making that lead to stalled drives is fixable.

I think Kyle is a good enough OC and that McNabb is a willing enough student of the game to learn and improve.

We will be able to sustain offense when, and only when, we can pound the ball on the ground.
No doubt it would make life easier if we could run the ball.
But, i have a hard time believing that Kyle and McNabb won't be able to create a more efficient passing game that can move the sticks while still going down town early and often.
