Re: Would it be practical to just (mostly) draft o-line this upcoming year
Turning this offensive line into a good one shouldn't be too difficult, as we've already done most of the painful part of rebuilding the line. A decision must be made on Jammal Brown. I think he's a good scheme fit, but not a particularly great player. There was a play on Sunday where the Redskins had the pass protection perfectly set up for McNabb to convert a third and long, and Brown had Tuck engaged and practically neutralized, only for Tuck to rip and overpower him and wind up on McNabb. That cannot happen.
If we don't re-sign Brown, we're going to need to use one of the top two picks (probably the second) on an OT. If we do re-sign Brown and admit that we're not looking to build a great line but rather a competent one, then we're already really close to rebuilt: cut Dockery, cut Rabach, cut Hicks. Then you have a starting line of [Trent Williams-Kory Lichtensteiger-Will Montgomery-Not on Roster-Jammal Brown]. That RG can either be a free agent (such as Davin Joseph), or a high draft choice, but it's the big hole on the line next season. If we DON'T resign Brown, we're two holes away.
For whatever reason, we kept a lot of dead weight on our roster this year. Hopefully guys like Capers and Cook are ready to be the depth we need to take over the roster spots of Rabach and Dockery and Hicks.
