People will trade for him because they want to obtain his rights. In FA he gets to go wherever he wants. When we own his rights and two teams want him, one will be willing to give out a late round pick to make sure they get his rights.
Also we can hold onto him for as long as we want. He wont show up to the team facilities. If a team wants him for training camp, they will trade for him.
