And I would care if he left. This organization needs the proven leadership and experience that he offers. We've tried the "young, hungry" coaching route already. Turning this situation over to a rookie HC would ultimately set us back even further.
Everything else though, you're dead on. Especially the players that we've hung on to because of their supposed "locker room leadership". What gets proven year in and year out is that they're simply average players that won't get us to the upper echelon no matter who is coaching, and it's time to cut the ties from just about every player of the Joe Gibbs 2.0 era.

I think you make fair points. I'd also say that I agree that Shanahan wouldn't walk away, I'm just saying that if that were to happen, I wouldn't have a problem with him leaving because it wouldn't be in the best interest of the franchise to continue to prop this team up with another veteran or two who may get them to 9 or 10 wins for a year or two. I believe Shanahan came here to rebuild and change the culture, so I don't think he'd walk away.
Also, I agree with you on caring if he left. I'd be hugely disappointed if he left because I think he's someone who could do a good job directing a rebuild, but if rebuilding were a deal breaker for him, I'd tell him that we have to go in another direction and not let him convince me that we're close.
As for missing on the hungry, rookie head coach, I don't know that Zorn should count. For me, I didn't think he was a viable head coaching candidate when he got the job. Then, I was fooled by the 6-2 start, but, ultimately, he proved me right. The guy wasn't cut out to be, or maybe he just wasn't ready to be, a head coach in the NFL.
I will say that I'm probably guilty of "Tomlin Envy" because he's my favorite head coach in the league right now and I'd love to have a young coach who I knew could be around for more than 5 years. Basically, I want the Redskins to find their own version of a Mike Tomlin. (This will be funny if they become horrible and someone digs this up in a few years...lol)
