I believe Shanahan came here to rebuild and change the culture, so I don't think he'd walk away.

Also, I agree with you on caring if he left. I'd be hugely disappointed if he left because I think he's someone who could do a good job directing a rebuild, but if rebuilding were a deal breaker for him, I'd tell him that we have to go in another direction and not let him convince me that we're close.

As for missing on the hungry, rookie head coach, I don't know that Zorn should count. For me, I didn't think he was a viable head coaching candidate when he got the job. Then, I was fooled by the 6-2 start, but, ultimately, he proved me right. The guy wasn't cut out to be, or maybe he just wasn't ready to be, a head coach in the NFL.

I will say that I'm probably guilty of "Tomlin Envy" because he's my favorite head coach in the league right now and I'd love to have a young coach who I knew could be around for more than 5 years. Basically, I want the Redskins to find their own version of a Mike Tomlin. (This will be funny if they become horrible and someone digs this up in a few years...lol)
I know what you mean. I'm looking at teams like Atlanta (Mike Smith), the Bucs (Raheem Morris), -- organizations that have completely turned it around in a short time span and did so with head coaches who were formerly assistants. Of course it didn't work with us.

It all has to do with that 'negative energy field' that has surrounded this team since, oh, summer of 1999.
