I think the biggest reason to expect improvement is look at the offense during the first half of the season compared to the offense during the last half. Brunell had a QB rating of 63, and Ramsey's was a much more palatable 80+ if you take out that Giants game in which he came in relief during week 2. You could really see the offense's progression throughout the year. Cooley became a reliable target for Ramsey, the O-line learned how to zone-block on stretch plays for Portis, Gibbs started to mix in Ladell Betts when the situation called for it, and now the biggest thing of all is we get Jansen back. I have hope for the offense. Will it be a juggernaut? I don't think so, but I think we can expect a middle of the pack ranking.
And I still think the D will be good. I don't think it's much of a step down from Smoot to Walt Harris. I'm concerned about finding a brain like Pierce's to play MLB, but overall I think our D will be top 5 again. That should have the makings of a solid squad.
