Re: ILB Robert McCune

comments from Gibbs:

On selecting Louisville linebacker Robert McCune:

“We went down to Louisville to work everybody out down there and Robert is a little bit different in that he has served overseas. He is a service guy. He is older because of that, he is 26 years old. We really like him from the standpoint that obviously a spot on our football team where somebody could make our team is middle linebacker. When you talk to him this guy is all service, it is yes sir and no sir. It is impressive from that stand point. He has also been as a sophomore the special teams play of the year at Louisville. He led the team in tackles last year. We think we have someone there that is a real candidate to make our football teams in a lot of ways.”

On what position he would play:

“For us and our football team middle linebacker is where we are going to start him. He is extremely fast and really well built. He is 6-0 and 245 lbs and is a 4.5 guy. He is probably the most impressive person I may have ever seen just standing there.”

On if age was a factor at all in so many teams passing on him:

“I think a lot of people probably backed off of him because of age. He is starting his career off at 26. He is somebody we felt that is really a value. I really trust Dale’s (Lindsey) judgment on linebackers. He had him much higher in the draft and we thought he was going to go much higher. I feel real good about that.”

On when they made the trade for the 5th round pick if this is who was on their radar:

“We actually had four guys there that we were thinking in this round.”
