Re: Walters new column 4/25/05
I completely agree with this column. The early picks were insane. Mike Williams is a beast. The worst case scenario with Williams is that he will be a Pro Bowl H-back--which happens to be a staple of the Gibbs offense. No offense to Chris Cooley--but Williams is a man among boys in the redzone. In this day and age of former basketball players turned superior receivers (i.e. Moss, Owens, Gates, Gonzalez) Williams would have been an amazing pick. I mean D. McCants played bball at Delaware State and look what he does in the redzone??? Williams is simply is a take your breath away player.
As far as Rogers--I don't know if he will be a player or not. What I do know is a Gregg Williams defense makes a lot of people look good. Everyone is salivating for Garnell Wilds based on a few games last year. If we can plug in a free agent corner and have half the people on this site rave about him--why do we need corner at pick 9? Half the defense last year seemed to be plug in FAs and our defense was top 5.
Lastly--the Campbell pick--this kid better be the real deal. Maybe Gibbs is counting on the "Rivers-Brees effect" to get Ramsey kickstarted. I for one like Ramsey but am not sold on him either. It just seems to me that the team does not have the luxury to mortgage three picks on a project at this point.
