I personally never thought of being on a motorcycle as that risky. I think that its that type of people and what they do on them that makes it more dangerous. One of the reasons air travel is statisticly safer than cars or bikes is that most pilots are professionals who don't take chances. In short bikes don't kill people, stupid people on bikes kill people.
