The media and fans of our region have recently all become expert talent evaluators. I've heard that the Redskins will be lucky to finish 3-13, I've heard that John Beck doesn’t have the footwork to be a successful NFL quarterback. The footwork? What does any fan know about footwork?

We describe our fan base in DC as being passionate and knowledgeable. We say Marylanders know crabs and football. But this offseason has proven that this region’s football knowledge is microscopic; it can't be seen with the naked eye.

We've cried for years that Dan Snyder's decision to spend high dollars for prime time players was wrong. We look back in disgust at how we unloaded a pile of loot on Deion Sanders, Albert Haynesworth, and Adam Archuleta. We've all screamed for years that this was not the correct way to build a contender. So what did Mr. Snyder do?

He gave the fans exactly what they hollered for: A very competent general manager in Bruce Allen, and a proven champion in Mike Shanahan. Mr. Snyder agreed to not over pay on free agents. And the organization seems to be building the team through the draft, like fans once talked about. But as Coach Shanahan pointed out, talk is cheap. Fans talked the talk, but they weren't prepared for the Redskins to walk.
