Re: Meet The Candidates: 2012 GOP Thread
I love the quote about his dad J
Technically, Perry’s first job as an adult was selling encyclopedias and bibles door-to-door over the summer of the early 70s, while still studying in A&M. He would recount later, “There is nothing that tests your commitment to a goal like getting a few doors closed in your face”.
Perry enlisted with the United States Air Force after graduating in 1972, rising to the rank of Captain in a five-year career. During his time with the Air Force, he flew the military transport aircraft C-130 to far-flung corners of the world, including the hotspots of Central America, North Africa and Europe.
Soon after leaving the Air Force, Perry was accepted to join Southwest Airlines’ pilot-training program. However, he changed his mind and returnedhome to work in the farm following a conversation with his father.
“Dad still thought I was there to do chores. I reminded him that I had just finished commanding a multimillion-dollar piece of government equipment and a number of grown men. He reminded me that the chores still needed tending to."
