I don't think his high number of tackles had anything to do with his coverage skills, except for the fact that the coaches prefer to play him closer to the line of scrimmage.
I wouldn't say that the high number of tackles is in and of itself an indicator of poor play by LL - it is more symptomatic with a poor defense in general....running backs getting to the second level....poor CB play....etc.
Please note the large "bubbles" in the Skins D that should not exist in any 3-4 D.
For LL's part, he did his job by bringing guys to the ground, but he still had trouble in 2010 with taking poor angles.
Sorry to keep harping on the Eagles game - it was like watching someone steal my bike when I was 8, but notice the poor angles LL took in pass defense....
He can fix that with a little patience and a willingness to not
always
go for the kill.
Oh, and that first pass to DeSean Jackson, LL had his man beat....he lost him by misjudging the ball.
There were multiple failed responsibilities on that play however, including the CB #83 who let DJ past him without any contact, whatsoever. At that point LL became more of a safety valve who's primary task was preventing a TD.
