Re: Meet The Candidates: 2012 GOP Thread
I just remembered the whole issue with regards to the AP quoting Obama as saying:
Quote:
|
"Shake it off. Stop complainin'. Stop grumblin'. Stop cryin'. We are going to press on. We have work to do."
|
There was an outrage that the AP quoted Obama the way he actually spoke, rather than the grammatically correct way. Literary scholars weighed in on if the AP was correct or not. Many linguistic scholars sided with the AP since Obama doesnt normally speak with a grammatically-incorrect dialect and since he was purposely making a particular point of emphasis in his speach.
I understand that Cain isnt the president, or even the Republican nominee, but while the media was outrage over how the AP quoted Obama the editor of Newsweek was on TV saying “naahn-naahn-naahn” in reference to Cain’s 999 Plan. Jon Stewart has even given an Amos and Andy impression of Cain when impersonating him. Early on left wing media even questioned Cain’s intelligence, I personally believe in part because of his dialect.
Unfortunately there is clearly a double standard about how black politicians should be spoken to and treated depending on their political idenity.
